# Enable screen recording permissions for interviews

If you are running macOS Catalina — version 10.15 — or later, you must grant access to the new Screen Recording Permission in order to share your screen during an interview session. Changing this security setting requires you to restart the Chrome browser, so be sure you complete this and any other readiness checks more than 24 hours before your session.

### How to grant access to Chrome Screen Recording Permission

1. Manually open **System Settings**
2. Click on **Privacy & Security**
3. Scroll down and choose **Screen & System Audio Recording** in the sidebar
4. Click the box next to **Google Chrome** or **Microsoft Edge** (select the browser you'll be using for your session) to allow screen sharing for your interview session.
5. A pop-up should appear indicating that Chrome or Edge will need to be quit before it is able to record the contents of your screen. Click **"Quit Now"** to exit out of all running instances of Google Chrome.
6. **Reopen your browser** and finish your [Interview to-do list](/interview-studies/participate-in-interview-studies/your-desktop-interview-to-do-list.md)!

**Note:** If you disable the **Screen Recording** permission in System Preferences, you’ll need to enable it again later.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://participanthelp.dscout.com/interview-studies/interview-technical-requirements/enable-screen-recording-permissions-for-interviews.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
